How you today Miss Pamela? Oscar is well - although I think the poor bub is going deaf but he is still beautiful.

Anyway, there will be some type of inquiry starting or has started in Australia about the use of Formaldehyde (embalming fluid - used by funeral palours)in baby products, doonas and clothing all made in China Has there been any reports of this in other countries due the body asborbing the products and making people ill or giving them rashes, or blisters or the like . My concern is Oscar's absorption of the product and so I stopped buying baby doonas from the discount chain store and bought him an organic doona made in the Netherlands. Which I might add are hard to come by and expensive. I want to know if there have been other reports or studies made in other western countries of these products and effects on humans and animals. I am also wondering whether this has occured because of the lead paint found in the mattel children's toys. I also stopped buying dog coats made in China and only buy Doggiejama made in Australia - coz the use of the Formaldehyde concerns me.

Hi Marg,

Ya hoo.......... I moved the post and it stayed and did not delete itself <G> This is a great question you had :) I did some research and found a lot of information on this. Who knew that embalming fluid is in our clothes and pet materials too, no doubt!

I am also worried about *chemicals in general* in Lil-Lea's pillows and clothes, as she is Mrs Lickey! After I read what you wrote, I grabbed her new blankie and her heart-shaped pillow and once again, threw them into the wash. (BOTH are MADE IN CHINA) <sigh> I think even if the *finished product itself* is not made there, we still have to be worried about where the materials came from the made the products and that is usually CHINA, or so it seems! We are surrounded by TOXIC DANGERS !

I posted all the information under TOXIC DANGERS & SAFETY. There are 3 posts! The top post is all about Formaldehyde and its dangers and composition, tests they have run and laws, etc.

The other two posts are dated and are down further on the list. One is from the Erin Brockovich site.

{{{{{shhhh, whispering}}}}} Oscar is a gorgeous baby ! How old is he? You probably mentioned it, but I do not remember. I share your concerns with all these chemicals in our products, more for our fur babies and our human babies, as their little systems are so much smaller and weaker against these things.

I have really been quite worried with things coming from China though I know many people haven't. But when all that stuff came about with the dog food as well as human food, well it only stands logical it's in their other products too. Some sort of chemicals that's highly toxic.

What gets me though is that any thing that's non toxic or organic is always extremely high in price.

Murray I have to also watch as being he has sensitive skin the chemicals in which people use in public places are highly toxic and is quite easily for him to absorb into his skin.

I now take his blanket throw with me everywhere instead of just a few places so he could lay on that as I know what I use to clean it. Non perfume detergent, etc.

Speaking of organic not all organic is safe for our dogs as well. Such as Coco mulch that many people thought it was safe for our animals only to find out it was deadly!

I saw a very small article in our one of our Sydney papers over 12 months ago I thought to myself this is not good. Especially for Oscar. I had a chat to my sister about it and said what do you think - she thought there was something in it. So I enquired at an organic shop that sells baby bedding and baby clothing - the guy told me is was quite common as it kept the product in good nick when it was travelling by ship from China to Australia. I did not read anything again until recently and there was even more information in the paper about the formaldehyde - I thought this is not good, there must be something in this. I again enquired with the guy at the organic shop and he said the content of the chemicals in our products are low but we cannot 100% rule out chemicals in any of our products. After a recent expose into our insight program about GM products in in non-gm foods. I thought nope - we are going to avoid the Target Baby Doonas and K-Mart products. So I have to scour the internet for the products. There is a business in this.

It seems like everything is being made by China and that just stinks for me. Even your cookware, clothing, etc. is all coming from China. And these are your top of the line companies too! One thing I really hate is when they say it's made here in the USA but the materials are imported and they do not tell you from where. :big no no:
